Frequently asked questions

How does the team generator split people?

It shuffles the whole list with the Fisher-Yates method, every order equally likely, then deals the names into the teams in turn. When the count does not divide evenly, the first teams get one extra person.

Number of groups or people per group?

Pick "Number of groups" when you know how many teams you need, "People per group" when you know the size. With 26 people and groups of 4 you get 7 groups: 5 of 4 and 2 of 3.

What are the chances two friends end up together?

With 30 people in 5 teams of 6, two given people share a team 17.2% of the time. In 2 teams of 15 it is 48.3%.

Can I print or export the teams?

Yes. Print shows only the teams, one card per group. Download CSV gives a spreadsheet with one row per person and its group number; Copy pastes into a document or a chat.

Is my list saved?

In this browser only, and it is the same list as the spin the wheel page, so you type your class once. Nothing is sent to a server.
